How to use SPIO® input orthosis
SPIO® stands for "Stabilizing Pressure Input Orthosis". Each SPIO® orthosis has been precision fabricated by Dynamics Competence Center, according to individual measurements, in order to obtain the optimal effect. This orthotic system is designed to provide stability and improve sensory limb and positional awareness through compression of soft tissue. Physicians and therapists should monitor the use and effects of SPIO® orthotics closely to provide maximum benefits.
How to care correctly for your SPIO® Orthosis:
The SPIO® orthosis is made snug fitting and worn next to the skin with only diaper or underpants underneath. There is no break-in period. From the moment you receive your SPIO®, you begin wearing it all day. SPIO® is not bulky and can be worn discretely under clothing or fashionable by itself. For easier donning of a SPIO® orthosis you can use an "Easy Slide" dressing aid - please ask your orthotist, he/she will advise you.
The orthosis is made of multidirectional high quality Lycra fabric that has a considerably higher rebound memory than other conventional Lycra fabrics. Your garment is breathable and can be comfortably worn by cold as well as warm weather. Even though the Lycra-material is very breathable, please be cautious of overheating (hyperthermia) when wearing your orthosis in hot weather. Hyperthermia is at greater risk in persons with neurologic disorders. Because your orthosis is fitted snugly, please be careful in contact with open heat sources.
Care instructions:
Your SPIO® orthosis should be washed after 24 hours of wearing. SPIO® is easy care and machine washable (30° C delicate setting), using a mild detergent but no fabric conditioner. Please be sure to attach all Velcro straps to each other before washing.
